President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 while campaigning in Las Vegas Wednesday.
Biden, 81, is experiencing "mild symptoms" including "general malaise" from the virus, The White House confirmed.
"The President presented this afternoon with upper respiratory symptoms, to include rhinorhea (runny nose) and non-productive cough, with general mailaise. He felt okay for his first event of the day, but given that he was not feeling better," he was tested for COVID-19, and the results were positive," a note from Biden's doctor, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, said in Wednesday's announcement.
O'Connor said Biden's vital signs were normal and he received his first dose of Paxlovid.
PCR confirmation testing will be pending. His symptoms remain mild, his respiratory rate is normal at 16, his temperature is normal at 97.8 and his pulse oximetry is normal at 97%, According to the White House.
The President has received his first dose of Paxlovid. 
The President, who is vaccinated and boosted, will be "returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time," according to Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
Biden's COVID-19 infection comes more than a week after second gentleman Doug Emhoff tested positive for the virus.
